                     Chief Information Security Officer
               Full-Time Regular, Exempt, Fiscal-Year Position

The University of Maine System is seeking to fill the newly created
position of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).  Under the general
direction of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and working
with several groups within the University of Maine System, the Chief
Information Security Officer is responsible for the development and
delivery of a comprehensive information security and privacy program for
the University of Maine System.  The scope of this program is system-wide,
and includes information in electronic, print and other formats.  The
purposes of this program include: to assure that information created,
acquired or maintained by UMS, and its authorized users, is used in
accordance with its intended purpose; to protect UMS information and its
infrastructure from external or internal threats; and to ensure that UMS
complies with statutory and regulatory requirements regarding information
access, security and privacy.

Required Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current information security best practices
    • Understanding of and experience with relevant data privacy and
      information security laws, regulations and requirements
    • Understanding of supported system architectures and evolving
      technologies
    • Ability to develop and defend technical recommendations and budgetary
      plans
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and
      experience.
    • Ten years experience, including project and personnel management, in
      Information Security or a related IT field

Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated ability to perform CISO functions in a university setting
      or similarly complex environment
    • Advanced degree in a relevant field
    • Certification as a Certified Information System Auditor (CISA),
      Certification as a Certified Information Systems Security
      Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)

If the successful internal applicant does not have the CISA, CISSP or CISM
certifications, (s)he will be expected to obtain the CISSP and CISM
certification within the first year and the CISA certification within the
2nd year of the appointment. The position, which is located in Bangor, has
a salary range starting at $80,254 with the maximum depending upon
qualifications and experience.
